IMPORTATION OF USED OR RECONDITIONED MOTOR VEHICLES IN 2024

FRCS wishes to advise all motor vehicle dealers, traders, importers, and the members of the public that the importation criteria for secondhand motor vehicles under Schedule 3 of the Customs (Prohibited Imports & Exports) Regulation 1986 are as follows:

 

  • 5 years or less from the year of manufacture and Euro 4 compliant – for the importation of used or reconditioned hybrid passenger vehicles and mini vans (10 or more passengers not exceeding 15 persons)
  • 8 years or less from the year of manufacture and Euro 4 compliant – for the importation of used or reconditioned diesel and petrol passenger vehicles, mini vans (10 or more passengers not exceeding 15 persons) and dual-purpose vehicles (twin cabs)
  • Euro 4 complaint – for the importation of used or reconditioned goods trucks, buses (16 persons or more including the driver), road tractors, LPG, CNG and solar vehicles.

 

The minimum year model that will be admissible for importation next year, effective 1st January 2024, will be as follows:

 

  • Year 2019 and over for used hybrid vehicles.
  • Year 2016 and over for used diesel and petrol vehicles.

 

All motor vehicle import licences issued this year (2023) for hybrid vehicles that are 2018 models and diesel/petrol passenger vehicles that are 2015 models, MUST leave the country of export on/or before 31st December, 2023.

 

Vehicles falling within these criteria that are shipped after 31st December 2023 shall:

  • not be eligible for issuance of an Import Licence.
  • be considered a prohibited import.
  • not be permissible for release.
  • be subject to re-exportation at the cost of the

 

FRCS encourages motor vehicle dealers, traders, importers, and the members of the public to obtain an import licence PRIOR to loading and shipping of the vehicles for Fiji to avoid any  inconveniences.
