
1. What You Must Declare
Before leaving Fiji, you are not required to declare your personal effects unless you are carrying:
A. Travelling on return ticket (example – NAN/SYD/NAN)
Foreign currency exceeding FJ$10,000 or FJD $500. Foreign currency equivalent to FJD plus $FJ up to FJ$500 must be equal to FJ$10,000 ), including negotiable bearer instruments such as:
- Cheques
- Traveller’s cheques
- Money orders
- Promissory notes
- Bearer bonds
B. Travelling on one way ticket (example – NAN/SYD)
Foreign currency exceeding FJ$5,000 or FJ$500 in Fijian currency
→ Requires prior approval from the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji
C. Travelling overseas for work or student visa on one way ticket (example – NAN/SYD)
Foreign currency exceeding FJ$10,000 or FJD $500. (Foreign currency equivalent to $FJ plus $FJ up to FJ$500 must be equal to FJ$10,000)
If any of the above (departing/arriving in Fiji) applies, you must:
- Declare the amount on your departure card
- Complete a Border Currency Reporting Form (available at Customs counters)
2. Penalties for Non-Compliance
Failure to declare currency or obtain the necessary approvals may result in:
- Seizure or forfeiture of the undeclared currency
- Prosecution under Fijian law
