FJD $10,000 or more (or foreign currency equivalent), including negotiable bearer instruments such as:

• Cheques
• Traveller’s cheques
• Money orders
• Promissory notes
• Bearer bonds

If any of the above applies (arriving in Fiji), you must:

• Complete a Border Currency Reporting Form (available at Customs counters)
• Declare the amount on your departure card

Firearms are restricted imports and require a permit from the Fiji Police Force.

Declare all firearms and weapons to a Customs Officer upon arrival, even if you have a valid license. Prohibited weapons include:

• Flick knives
• Swordsticks
• Knuckle-dusters
• Any item disguised as another object but intended as a weapon

• Strictly prohibited: Importing dangerous drugs such as:
  • Opium (raw or prepared)
  • Indian hemp (cannabis)
  • Cocaine
  • Methamphetamines
  • LSD
  • Synthetic narcotics
  • Any substances listed under the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004

• Also prohibited: Drug-related utensils, including:
  • Bongs, hash pipes, hookahs
  • Roach clips
  • Opium pipes

Penalties for drug smuggling are severe and may include heavy fines and imprisonment. If you suspect illegal drug activity, report it to:

Radio transmitters and telecommunications devices require an import permit from the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji.

• Importing pets (e.g., cats, dogs) is strictly regulated by the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF).
• Contact BAF before travel for import conditions and quarantine requirements:

Fiji enforces the Endangered and Protected Species Act 2002, which aligns with the CITES Convention.

• Items made from endangered species (e.g., jewelry, carvings, feathers) may require permits.
• Whale’s teeth (Tabua) require a permit from:
  • iTaukei Affairs Board: www.itaukeiaffairs.gov.fj
  • Department of Environment: www.environment.gov.fj

Note: Tabua imported without a permit will be detained by Customs and released only upon presentation of the required documentation

• All commercial goods are subject to Customs Duty and VAT.
• Declare these goods on your arrival card and to the Customs Officer at the baggage area.

Clearance process:

• If value is under FJ$1,000 or the item is perishable or urgent (e.g., medicine), clearance and payment can be done at the airport.
• If value is over FJ$1,000 and not pre-cleared, goods will be detained until a formal Import Entry is processed.

A detention notice will be issued to the owner or their Customs Agent

• Duty is based on the CIF value (Cost + Insurance + Freight).
